" If You Build It, Quilters Will Come. Country quilting shop offers quality fabrics, machine quilting, and much more."
What started out as a family venture has rapidly become a reality for Gerald and Lois Nichols, and turned into a much-needed and much-appreciated business for the sewers and quilters who live in Gray County and the surrounding areas.
Located eight miles north of Copeland Kansas, Sunflower Creations enjoys a rural and serene location while avoiding the high sales taxes imposed on many of the surrounding cities.
Gerald and Lois initially planned on opening a shop specializing in sewing machine sales, service, fabric and supplies, but decided to include long arm quilting services after they purchased a Gammill machine.
The resulting store is a delightfully open, modern and airy shop with display shelving for quality quilting fabric, patterns and notions and an area for the Gammill machine. They have a large selection of quilt batting, and a modern sewing machine repair shop. From time to time Sunflower Quilts also offers a variety of locally made crafts.
The Nichol’s two children Jonathan and Anda play are also actively engaged in the family business.
Sunflower Creations offers service and repair on all makes and models of sewing machines, specialized quilt design services and a large variety of new BERNINA sewing, quilting, and embroidery machines as well as sergers.
To some people, opening a new retail and service business in a rural area may take a leap of faith, but Lois and Gerald are relaxed, calm, and positive about their future.
